Nick Batik.
Inventor, story teller, artist, teacher, traveler, martial artist, and
programmer whose learned and used more computer technologies
than most people know exist.
Who I am.
I am known by what I do.
Design
As the son of an artist and grandson of a New York fashion designer, I guess I just can’t help but think in images.
I believe art is at its best when its functional. That’s why I’ve spent the past decades designing books, marketing collateral, websites, logos, and more.
But art is also what gives beauty to life. I especially like art I can touch. My favorite media are stained glass, ceramics, and stone (lapidary).
Programming
To my way of thinking, programming is the most pure, mental activity possible, other than mathematics (also a hobby of mine).
The beauty of programming, other than the sheer contest of wills between man and machine, is the simple fact that when done successfully, you get to see it work.
While it may seem strange to the non-technical, computer code can also have an esthetic elegance, albeit one the world at large rarely gets to see.
Teaching / Speaking
For me the greatest joy in learning anything is sharing it with others.
Dating back to my earliest years in drama and debate, I have found that the most comfortable place for me is at the front of the room.
I’ve taught professionally as a corporate trainer throughout the US, UK, and Scandinavia, as well as volunteer teacher/trainer in a wide variety of business and computer topics.
